Danny Ashok, who played Abe in the London production of Disgraced, will make his Broadway debut in the role, opposite the previously announced Hari Dhillon, Gretchen Mol and Josh Radnor. Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which had a critically acclaimed off-Broadway run at Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theatre in 2012, will begin previews on September 27 and officially open on October 23 at the Lyceum Theater.
Ashok’s stage credits include The Djinns of Eidgah, Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 and Blood and Gifts. His screen credits include Silk, The Dumping Ground, Casualty, Coronation Street, Perfume, Four Lions and The Wasp and The Caterpillar.
Disgraced follows Amir Kapoor (Dhillon), a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural roots. When Amir and his wife, Emily (Mol), a white artist influenced by Islamic paintings, host a dinner party, what starts out as a friendly conversation escalates into something far more damaging.
The drama will be helmed by Kimberly Senior, who directed the off-Broadway production, and also star Karen Pittman, who appeared in that incarnation.
